Read Denyse Pennington
From wondering what comes next to feeling right at home.
Making the move to Teddington
Denyse Pennington chose Teddington Retirement Home at a meaningful moment in her life, when she felt ready to retire and embrace a simpler, more supported way of living. With her son nearby in Toronto, she looked for a place that would allow her to maintain independence while still offering care if needed. Teddington felt like the perfect balance. She appreciated being able to live comfortably as a tenant rather than a patient, and the convenience of having meals provided removed the daily burden of cooking and shopping
A smooth and welcoming transition
Her transition into retirement living was smooth, thanks to the welcoming and supportive staff who made moving in feel easy, regardless of health needs. Denyse was pleasantly surprised by how friendly everyone was and how much privacy she could still enjoy in her own apartment while knowing help was always close by. Even small, unexpected moments—like rediscovering clothes she had forgotten she packed—brought a sense of joy and lightness to settling in.
“
The moment I arrived, I felt at ease — it felt like the right place to call home.

Activities I enjoy and staying connected
Throughout her life, Denyse has loved staying active. The meaningful work and connections that shaped my life

Growing up in a large family with five siblings, she learned practical skills and developed a love for outdoor activity encouraged by her father. She later shared a loving marriage and raised her son, David, who remains an important part of her life today.
Who inspires me now
Even at 91, Denyse finds daily inspiration in helping others. Whether offering companionship, sharing knowledge, or assisting with small tasks, she believes that making a difference—no matter how simple—gives life meaning.
